Dave Snowden is a Welsh management consultant and researcher working at the intersection of complexity science, anthropology, and organizational decision-making. He is best known for creating the Cynefin framework, a model developed in 1999 during his time at IBM that helps leaders distinguish between simple, complicated, complex, and chaotic problems and respond appropriately to each. He also designed SenseMaker, the first distributed ethnography tool built for large-scale narrative capture and pattern recognition. Dave holds a philosophy degree from the University of Lancaster and an MBA from Middlesex Polytechnic. He now divides his time between two roles, as founder and Chief Scientific Officer of The Cynefin Company and founder and Director of the Cynefin Centre, working internationally with government and industry on strategy and complex decision-making.
